Crown Reductions and Thinning
Crown Reductions
This is a more extensive and severe method of pruning usually used for the following reasons: To reduce the weight of potentially dangerous limbs. Balance a mishapen tree following storm damage or after bad pruning. To prevent trees from obstructing or damaging buildings and property. To prevent trees from interfering with overhead power or telephone lines.
Crown Thinning
Crown thinning is carried out to reduce the thickness of the crown and to let air movement and light penetration through the crown, the over-all shape and size of the tree is still maintained whilst selective branches and stems are removed from inside the crown.
